Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has seen a significant decrease in expatriate population over the past two years, Times of Oman reported on Monday. an official said at the press conference announcing the results of the 2020 electronic census.
The daily quoted Khalifa Al-Barwani, the chief executive officer Sultanate’s National Center for Statistics and Information, as saying that “there has been remarkable decrease in the number of expat arrivals in the past two years, by about 300,000”.
The expat population two years ago was two million, and has come down to 1.7 million today, Al Barwani was quoted as saying.
Ziad Al Harrasi, acting Director General at the census body, also was quoted as saying that “there is full knowledge of legal residents and those with valid residency cards, and we know about expired resident cards holders who violate the residency law.”
