California: Microsoft Corp. and Facebook Inc. said they are halting political donations in the wake of the pro-Trump riot in the US Capitol last week.
Microsoft said its political action committee (MSPAC) on Friday decided it will not make any political donations “until after it assesses the implications of last week’s events”.
The software firms said the panel pauses donations in the first quarter of a new Congress, but will “take additional steps this year to consider the recent events and consult employees”.
Microsoft is under pressure from staff on social media to disband MSPAC following complaints that its bipartisan contributions involve donations to politicians who vote contrary to its positions on issues like immigration.
Bloomberg quoted Facebook spokesman Andy Stone as saying that the company is pausing its PAC contributions “for at least the current quarter while we review our policies”.
