New Delhi: UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab on Tuesday confirmed that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will tour India next month and be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade.
The announcement was made after he held talks with India’s external affairs minister, S. Jaishankar.
“PM Boris Johnson has invited PM Narendra Modi to join the G7 summit in the UK next year…(and) has accepted the very generous invitation to attend Republic Day celebrations (as chief guest) in January,” Raab said.
Jaishankar said Johnson accepting the invitation was, in a way, symbolic of a new era in Indo-UK ties.
Raab’s visit from December 14-17 comes at a time Britain is in complex talks with the European Union on a post-Brexit trade deal.
