Maharashtra home minister calls for simple Christmas

Mumbai: Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh has appealed to people to celebrate Christmas in a simple manner amid Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued three days ahead of Christmas, Deshmukh has called for maintaining physical distancing norms, putting on masks and using sanitizers.

According to the state government’s guidelines, prayers in churches should be held with attendance of a maximum of 50 people on Christmas day.

The choir can have a maximum of 10 members, the statement added.

Deshmukh also suggested holding New Year thanksgiving masses in churches at 7pm or before that rather than at midnight on 31 December.

A night curfew (between 11pm and 6am) has been imposed in municipal corporation areas of the state from 22 December to 5 January.
