Theatres to reopen in Kerala on Wednesday

Kochi: Theatres that had shut for months amid the COVID-19 induced lockdown, will reopen to public from 13 January, Wednesday.

Tamil star Vijay starrer Master will be the first movie to hit theatres in Kerala on Wednesday.

The move to reopen theatres was taken at a meeting of the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) after the state sought to address KFCC’s key concerns.

Kerala is waiving entertainment tax on cinemas from January to March, and has offered a 50% reduction in fixed electricity charges since last March to help the film sector.

The state government on 1 January said theatres may reopen with 50% occupancy while strictly adhering to COVID- 19 guidelines.

Only 50% of seats should be occupied, or only half the tickets sold, the state government said.
