New Delhi: Aster DM Healthcare on Tuesday announced it will invest $100 million (around ₹730 crore today) to set up a hospital in Cayman Islands.
The move is part of plans to set up a clinical excellence hub, along with the government of Cayman Islands, to serve the Caribbean region, North America, Canada, Latin and South Americas, the healthcare chain said in a statement.
The agreement with the government of Cayman Islands will see the hospital chain develop a 150-bed ‘tertiary and quaternary care hospital’—which will later be expanded based on need—an assisted living facility and a healthcare university, it added.
The company seeks to replicate its ‘Medcity’ concept in Kochi with the project, Aster DM Healthcare said in the statement.
Cayman Islands premier Alden McLaughlin said: “Aster’s willingness to invest several hundred millions of dollars in the Cayman Islands economy, in spite of the economic downturn caused by covid-19, speaks volumes not only of its confidence in the Cayman Islands but also of the resilience of our economy and our people”.
Aster Cayman Medcity, together with other healthcare tourism providers, will further put the Cayman Islands in place to become a major regional healthcare hub, he added.
Aster DM Healthcare is one of the largest integrated healthcare service providers in multiple Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and a leading healthcare provider in India.
