New Delhi: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday launched the ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign to promote electric vehicles (EVs), appealing to Delhiites to buy such automotives to fight pollution.
Kejriwal asked delivery chains, big companies, resident welfare associations, market associations, malls and cinema halls to promote EVs and set up charging stations.
“I want to appeal to the youth to buy an EV as their first vehicle, Kejriwal said while asking people to make the campaign a mass movement.
The Delhi government’s EV policy is said to be one of the best and it’s high time now to implement it with commitment, he said, adding his government will hire only EVs in the next six weeks.
“In ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign, awareness will be created about benefits of EVs and how it can contribute to making Delhi clean and pollution free. I appeal to people to take part in the campaign to promote replacement of polluting petrol and diesel vehicles with EVs,” Kejriwal said.
Under its EV policy, Delhi has planned extensive subsidies on purchase of electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers, besides waiving road tax and registration charges, he added.
More than 6,000 EVs were purchased since the policy’s launch in August 2020.
Delhi, which has fixed a goal of 25% EVs among total vehicle registrations in Delhi by 2024, has also issued tenders for setting up 100 charging stations across the city, Kejriwal said.
