Virat Kohli, a captain India can surely drop

Virat Kohli is an excellent cricketer.

His record-breaking scores bear testimony to the fact.

That is it.

There is nothing more to write about his contribution to the game for India.

The dismal show under his captaincy which led to India getting uprooted for their worst Test score ever, ’36’, speaks about the morale of the team under him.

He could not steer the RCB team to any worthwhile performance in the Indian Premier League.

To make matters worse, India gave its best performance with some RCB players in the Gabba Test.

It all goes to prove that captaincy is what matters most at the end of the day.

That is what Kohli lacks.

His insecurity was clearly visible when he lashed out at Rohit Sharma during a press conference in Australia.

That was the worst thing he could have done.

You don’t lash out at your deputy, ever, in public.

You can reprimand him in private.

All said and done, cricket is a team sport. It cannot be a vehicle to facilitate Virat Kohli to break a few more records.

Sachin Tendulkar realized he couldn’t perform well as a captain and stepped down.

Tendulkar had the grace to play under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was junior to him.

It is that grace which is missing in Kohli.

Here is a WhatsApp forward that speaks for itself:

Corporate lesson from the Gabba Test WIN: Be cautious when you take leave from your job—it should be short enough to let the team miss you and definitely not so long enough that your team realizes that it can function without you…
