Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union home minister Amit Shah reached Kolkata around 1am Saturday for a two-day tour to take stock of the party’s campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections that is due next year.
There is growing speculation that Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari, who quits his cabinet portfolios and TMC, will join the BJP along with a few other TMC MLAs and leaders, when Shah is around.
The BJP leader is scheduled to address a campaign rally on Saturday in Midnapore, where the TMC leaders may join the saffron party.
The BJP’s state chief Dilip Ghosh said Shah and party chief J.P. Nadda will visit West Bengal every month till the polls, which are likely by April-May.
Nadda was on a day-long visit to north Bengal in October and came on a two-day tour last week, while Shah was in the state for two days in November.
