Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has made it compulsory for all postgraduate medical students from the state to serve in the government sector for at least 10 years after completion of their studies.
Those who fail to do so will face a fine of ₹1 crore.
The decision has been taken in the wake of a shortage of specialized doctors in state-run medical establishments.
The state government further said MBBS doctors who serve in government hospitals in rural areas will get concession marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, or NEET.
Those with at least two years experience in government hospital in rural areas will get a rebate of 20 points and those who complete three years will get a 30-point rebate.
Postgraduate medical students in UP are likely to find it difficult to take up private sector jobs unless they can shell out the ₹1 crore fine.
